I first moved to London in 2014, and I’ve met my fair share of tourists who made mistakes while booking accomodation. They didn’t realize how long it takes to get from place to place, booked a noisy Covent Garden hotel when they wanted peace and quiet, and the list goes on and on.

The personality quiz below will recommend London neighborhoods that fit your travel style, needs, and budget. The largest portion of your budget will go to accomodation, so let’s make sure you’re booking a spot that aligns with your desires.

You want to be right in the center of the action. No long tube rides for you – you want to step out your door and be in the middle of it all.  

Find accommodation in the following areas: 

• Westminster: Home of Downing Street and Big Ben, Westminster is as central as you can get. 
• Covent Garden: Super central but with fab shopping, theatres and entertainment? Covent Garden is perfect. 
• Mayfair: Pretty, posh, and close to everything! Mayfair is beautiful and a smart place to stay. 
• City of London: The ancient Roman center of London, staying in the City of London puts you close to everything and in the middle of incredible history. 

Result 2: Trendy & Unique

You don’t want to stay anywhere boring. What you need is a unique neighborhood that has all the hotspots people are talking about. 

Luckily, London has several trendy areas that will be great for you. 

Try the following: 

• Shoreditch: Home of incredible street art and trendy restaurants, this is where the cool young Londoners live and hang out. 
• Brixton: Home to music history, staying in Brixton will afford you some cool sights, hip street markets, innovative restaurants, and great transport links. 
• Canary Wharf: Is it an island? Or a giant dock? Who knows. But cool Londoners know it’s the trendiest place to live and hang out. 
• Battersea: It’s not only the super modern shopping & dining destination Battersea Power Station that attracts people to Battersea. It’s also the incredible views of the Thames and great cultural attractions. 

Result 3: Leafy & Lush

You’ll do best in an area that’s a bit quieter and serene. You don’t mind if it takes you a bit longer on the tube, as long as you can have rest and relaxation at your London accommodation.

London is so massive that there are incredible areas that are still fairly central to the action but also feel like quaint little villages. 

Try the following: 

• Hampstead: This leafy suburb isn’t really a suburb at all: it’s still close to everything on the Northern Line. But celebs and families love Hampstead for its amenities and quiet, serene village atmosphere. 
• Greenwich: Is there a more beautiful spot in London than Greenwich? This stunning village is right on the Thames but still accessible to all Central London has to offer. 
• Highgate: A bit beyond Hampstead but still with good transport links, Highgate is where the wealthiest of the wealthy hide out. This beautiful posh village has everything you need right there, but is also a quick hop on the tube to Central London. 
• Clapham: Not as posh, but just as leafy and beautiful, you’ll get more for your money in Clapham with great transport links and a cool local scene. 

Result 4: Central but not TOO Central

You want to be in the center of the action without feeling like you’re staying in tourist town. Luckily, London has just the neighborhoods for you. 

Try finding accommodation in: 

• Marylebone: Marylebone is a quaint English village right in the middle of Central London. But it doesn’t feel touristy or cheesy – it’s beautiful and quiet. 
• Angel: Walk alongside Regent’s Canal, sip a pint a waterside pub, and go antiquing in quaint Camden Passage. Plus, hop on the Northern Line to get anywhere in a flash! Angel is perfect. 
• Clerkenwell: Super close to the City of London and with great transport links, Clerkenwell is quieter and more serene that other parts of Central London, but still charming with lovely history and amenities. 
• Fulham: Close to the posh districts of Kensington and Chelsea but without the hefty price tag! Fulham is right on the Thames and is a charming little village close to everything. 

Result 5: Posh & Insta-Worthy

You want to stay in the prettiest, most Instagram-worthy digs you can find. London has some pretty & posh neighborhoods that are perfect for you! 

Try staying in: 

• Knightsbridge: The home of Harrods and high street shopping.  
• Chelsea: Reality show Made in Chelsea was created and filmed here for a reason. It’s all posh, all the time! 
• Kensington: If it’s good enough for Will & Kate, it’s good enough for you.
• Notting Hill: You won’t see Julia Roberts, but many London celebs call this posh village home.  

Final Tips

No matter where you stay in London, by best accommodation tips are:

• Make sure you’re close to a tube station. There’s nothing worse than finding out your hotel is really an hour away from the city, and half of that is walking.
• Be mindful of budget. Depending on your number of travelers, it may make more sense to rent an Airbnb.
