Cat Cafes in London FAQ

Which cat cafe is the best in London?

Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium is the original and most famous cat cafe in London. All the cats inside are adoptable, making their mission more than just “cuddle with cats” – it’s a London cat cafe with a mission.

Does London have a cat cafe?

Currently in 2024, London has only 4 cat cafes.

In the last year, La Maison du Chat – formerly the 5th cat cafe in London and the only cat cafe in South London – closed down.

Are cat cafes legal in the UK?

Yes. As long as animals aren’t allowed in areas where food preparation or storage takes place, cat cafes are legal in the UK.

What is the most popular cat cafe in London?

Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium is the most popular, Whiskers & Cream is the most posh, and Java Whiskers is the largest with two locations.

Are all cats in cat cafes adoptable?

Some cat cafes are essentially foster homes for adoptable cats, and some are not.

In London, Whiskers & Cream in Upper Holloway is the only cat cafe that does not offer adoption. All the other cat cafes in London offer adoption.

Are cats happy in London cat cafes?

Cat cafes are constantly monitoring the health and happiness of their felines. Part of the goal of most cat cafes is to help cats from all backgrounds become accustomed to social situations.

As Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium says, “our goal is to aid in socializing young felines to be confident, happy cats. The cafe is their home for as long as they are happy living here.”

Why are London cat cafes so expensive?

Not only is it expensive to run a restaurant, but they’re also paying for the housing, food,  and medical care for all of their resident cats.

That’s why you can expect higher prices, but your money is going toward the care and maintenance of foster cats and resident cats.

In London cat cafes are exceptionally expensive, as London rent and expenses are exorbitant.

Are London cat cafes stressful for cats?

Cats that are stressed by the cat cafe atmosphere will go to a different foster home.

A certain level of discomfort can be expected when a cat enters any new atmosphere, but the cats that are residents in cat cafes are very used to the atmosphere of their restaurant home.

What are the weaknesses of London cat cafes?

Some cat cafes are simply there for profit, as is the case of Whiskers & Cream on the above list.

Cafes like Whiskers and Cream are not foster homes for their kittens; the cats permanently live in the cafe.

While this is totally fine, cat cafes have a unique opportunity to help foster cats find forever homes as they are basically a permanent adoption event, where potential adopters can spend time with potential cats to see if they are a good fit.

It’s disappointing that all cat cafes do not run on this model.

Are children allowed in London cat cafes?

Most cafes allow children over a certain age. Check with your local cat cafe to ensure your child is allowed.

What’s the best kitten cafe in London?

Three of the four cat cafes in London offer kitten experiences: Java Whiskers Marylebone, Java Whiskers White City, and Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium.
